the inevitable

January 31, 2006 · Leave a Comment

everybody’s gearing up for the love/hate fest that is/will be the State of the Union address. as for me… no need to watch ‘you know who’ espouse more lies and bs rhetoric… it’ll just make my stomach burn and then i’ll have trouble getting to sleep.. and while i do think that a better direction for this country IS worth losing sleep over… i surely don’t think W is ; )

a friend told me about Dennis Kucinich’s (thank gawd google is smarter than i.. otherwise i’d have never found it!)

“The Truth About The State Of Our Union.” it includes some interesting, if not utterly depressing, facts about the ’state of our 50-states’, which georgey-porgey may either leave out or simply gloss-over with some sickening spin:
the jobless rate has jumped from 3.9% to 4.9%
the number of families living in poverty has increased from 8.7% to 10.2%
Our trade deficit has doubled
Inflation has gone up
Personal bankruptcies have gone up

ok now… lets get serious!!!
this Administration has turned a $128 billion federal budget surplus into a $319 billion deficit
45.5 million Americans, or over 15% of our total population have no health care coverage at all.

click here for the rest of the proverbial story

can’t wait for tomorrow’s NPR Early Edition and their speech ‘Fact Checker’…….. !!!

Oops! New study by non-partisan research firm says no dice to claims Jack Abramoff was steering tribal money to Dems like he was to Republicans. In fact, the study suggests opposite.

Bush wants us to take Bin Laden threat seriously

January 26, 2006 · Leave a Comment

President rejects renewed criticism of warrantless spying program… the NBC news report says that polls show americans are more concerned about being safe from further attack than their civil rights being compromised (better word choice here would be ignored… or violated)

who the hell are these people?????? have we seriously become so lazy that we’re a culture of just lay down and take its??????

personally……… i think bush is using the bin laden tape (who knows if that’s even authentic – there was an npr story on that.. and the timing was just a bit toooo coincidental) in order to further his culture of fear and, at the very least, re-focus attention on the fear, rather than his own over-waning sense of absolute power.

today’s bushism………

January 26, 2006 · Leave a Comment

“The budget caps were busted, mightily so. And we are reviewing with people like Judd Gregg from New Hampshire and others some budgetary reform measures that will reinstate–you know, possibly reinstate budgetary discipline. But the caps no longer–the caps, I guess they’re there. But they don’t mean much.”
–Washington, DC; February 5, 2001

i dunno………..my budget caps are pretty meaningful.. but then i guess its because i’m spending my own money. maybe if i were spending YOUR money… my budget caps wouldn’t mean as much ;)
